1...2...Buckle My Shoe

I made these for my Etsy store and they sold quick! Just thought I'd share them here too. What do you think?

Do You Love Winnie the Pooh?

If so, this blog post will probably put you over the top in cuteness! (Warning: This post has a lot of images)
I needed a birthday gift for a little girl turning 2. So I decided to make her a little gift set. I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby and decided to make her a little tote bag. It was super easy to make because the fabric was already in blocks for me.

I then bought enough of the matching fabric that I used to line the inside of the bag

And I made a matching fabric rag letter alphabet. To add a little variety, I also bought some cute yellow bee fabric, since Pooh loves honey.

After I finished those, I was done...except I still had 4 blocks left of the Pooh fabric. So I decided to make two little matching decorative pillows. They are small -- maybe she will use them as pillows for her dolls or something. I'm not sure, but I thought it would be a great way to use up the rest of the fabric.

And here is the complete gift set.

I'm having a hard time wanting to give it away! But since (as somebody asked in the previous post) this is not for me (no baby on the way or anything!!), I'll let a sweet little 2 year old enjoy it instead.

Are Owls Still Trendy?

Here's the small purse that I've been working on as a birthday gift for my niece. I'm not sure if owls are trendy or not, but these owls are cute either way! My sewing is getting a little bit better. There are still a lot of flaws on the purse, so don't look too closely. I was going to use fabric for the handles, but was having a hard time. Then I found this wide ribbon that I had saved. It had velcro on it and was wrapped around a blanket that I had. So I cut off the velcro and I think it ended up making great handles for the purse. The owl fabric is from Jo-Ann's Fabric. The inside of the purse is lined with corduroy squares.

Do You Hear Crickets Chirping?

It hasn't been THAT long since I blogged... I mean, some people go for months! But I thought since it's been a few days, I would update you one what I've been up to. For one thing, reading! I have read some good books these last few weeks. And then there's this other new hobby I've picked up. Sewing. I have a love/hate relationship with it. And it takes a lot longer for me to actually finish anything then it does when I'm making a card. I am working on a purse/bag as a gift for a little girl. I just have to finish the handles and the closure, then I will be able to show you the whole thing. I've also been working on a quilt...and guess what? I get to redo pretty much everything I already started with that because I messed up the squares (it's my first attempt at a quilt). So that will be a LONG TIME before I show you! But you can see the pieces below. Tomorrow I am hoping to get crafty with the ink and stamps. Today I was browsing around at Limelight because they are closing and had a cart full of stuff...and then I realized I hadn't used what I got last week, so I emptied it (sadly) and didn't buy a thing. Anyway, here's a picture of my latest endeavors...

And for those of you who are interested, I am having a giveaway at my Artfire store, Pieces of Me. All you need to do is look around my store, then send me a link of your favorite card on my Facebook fan page or send me a tweet @klt13. Then you'll be entered to win the card that you choose. Easy! Hopefully I'll have some more crafty goodness to show you soon.

Now I know my ABC's...

I finished my alphabet finally! I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do with them, but it was really good practice for my new sewing machine!

There is a small possibility that I now love fabric as much as patterned paper. I need a second job to pay for all this! :)

Fun and Frustrating!

Okay, let's get a few things out of the way first.
  1. I do not own a big cutting mat or a rotary cutter so I used a small self-healing mat (that fits into my scor-pal) and a pair of scissors.
  2. I cannnot cut straight.
  3. I used this tutorial to make my project and I also do not own the scalloped square die cut, so I used my square Nestabilitie (no scallops). It sort of worked.
  4. I cannot cut straight.
  5. I didn't have any cotton batting so I used polyester...I will use cotton next time.
  6. I cannot cut straight.
So, in my opinion, my project turned out decent for not having any of the right tools and for it being my first non-paper sewing project!

My fabric frayed really bad -- I guess I used the wrong material?? And my sewing machine jammed so many times -- that's where the frustration came in. I think my tension was too high?? Or maybe too low?? I don't know, I have no previous experience to base it on.
Before you know it, I'll be on Project Runway -- I could be the person they have on the show that's purely there for entertainment value!
